Production Timeline - Vocal Collision

Planning and dates

March 6th, 2026

In order for Vocal Collision to be a successful concert experience, several processes will run in parallel:

Description

Due Date

Music Arranging & Rehearsal

The song that will be sung is Moon River by Henry Mancini arranged and soloed by Trem Ampeloquio.

There will 8 performers - I won't be performing.

Rehearsals with the acapella group run 3x/week, however, Moon River as an arrangement has already been learned last year

A group rehearsal of the full experience will be run on Tuesday, April 21st

Audience Hand Tracking

Using a Kinect mounted on the ceiling, I will detect when hands are raised by blob detection and depth detection. This will be set up in Touch Designer. Andre Lira

Real-Time Audio Harmonization

I plan to use the bass mic input as the main driver for what chord will be played when an audience member raises their hand. This is because in the Moon River arrangement, the bass note is the root note of the entire chord being sung, and so it would be an easy. I have a prototype built already on the web.

Visuals in TouchDesigner

Using the hand tracking data from Touch Designer, light and color visuals will be manipulated. I plan to follow a Touch Designer tutorial to generate visuals since this is a new tool that I am using. I have a prototype built already on the web.

Performance

The NYU Media Commons Audio Lab will be the main space for this performance.
